If you look up at the sky at approximately 7:21 p.m. tonight, (Monday, Nov. 14, 2016), the moon will appear bigger and brighter than it has in almost 70 years. That’s because it’s turning full at the same time that it’s reaching the point in its orbit where it’s closest to earth. The non-astronomical term for this is “supermoon.” This one’s special because the moon will be 221,524 miles from Earth (the average distance is 248,900 miles) and the moon won’t be this close to our planet until 2034.
