Buddha-Bar Manila has partnered with Diageo Reserve and Tanqueray Gin to launch the 20th Visionary, a limited edition Tanqueray Gin cocktail as part of a global competition across the Buddha-Bar group. It combines Tanqueray London Dry Gin, Ole Saccharum, raspberry shrub, and egg white.

The exclusive partnership with Diageo Reserve runs only until the end of November 2016. Twenty-four bars in the Buddha-Bar Group worldwide competed to create the perfect Tanqueray serve using three main base ingredients: Tanqueray Gin, Lemon, and Sugar.

The winning Tanqueray serve will be included in Buddha-Bar Group’s 2017 cocktail menu. The winning bartender will experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the home of Tanqueray Gin hosted by Tanqueray Global Ambassador Stephanie Jordan. The trip includes a visit to Tanqueray and Gordon’s Distilling Company to view the iconic gin’s historic archives in Scotland.

Buddha-Bar Manila bar manager Clayton Paul Munar says, “We’re very excited to be working with Tanqueray on this global serve challenge as part of our 20-year celebration. Tanqueray Gin is one of our customer’s favorite gins so we’re delighted to be introducing them to an exclusive serve. I wanted to make a cocktail that embodies the vision of Buddha Bar creator: “A journey within a journey”. I personally chose this quote as my inspiration for creating the 20th Visionary. I moved away from our traditional signatures, which come in Asian vessels and ingredients and played around with the flavors, starting from the nose up to the lingering taste in the palate in the end. I am emphasizing as well the practice of closed-loop bartending or in laymans terms use-reuse-then recycle in one of the ingredients which is the oleo saccharum. The rinds of lemons and oranges used in its production is air-dried then used as our garnish. Afterwards, we then use them as fertilizer for our backyard garden where we started planting some herbs for use in the bar.”

Buddha-Bar Manila is serving up this cocktail until November 30, guests who order the 20th Visionary cocktail can take a creative snapshot and share it on their personal Instagram using the hashtag #Buddha20. Entries will get a chance to take home a bottle of Tanqueray Gin.

 

The 20th Visionary cocktail entry by Buddha-Bar Manila

Ingredients:

  • Tanqueray London Dry Gin (45 ml)
  • Raspberry Shrub (15 ml)
  • Oleo Saccharum (15 ml)
  • Egg White (30 ml)

Directions:

  1. Pour all ingredients in cocktail and shake with ice
  2. Discard and shake again without ice.
  3. Pour into chilled martini glass.
  4. Garnish with banana leaf spikes, lemon peel flower.

*Base of martini glass has the Tanqueray seal.
*Stem of martini glass is wrapped in ribbon or coloured wires.
