May 19, Saturday is World Whisky Day, this holiday is a global celebration of the  “water of life,” whisky. The best way to celebrate this golden spirit is to have a whisky dram, a whisky bottle, or a  whisky cocktail and enjoy it with friends, whisky enthusiasts, even whisky nubes.

Join the global celebration and have fun making these fun whisky cocktail recipes to share with your friends.

1. Frothy Whisky Sour

It is a cocktail with a light, foamy texture. The smokiness of the whisky will hold its own against the intensity of cigars, thus making it a great pairing. The charred cinnamon stick stirrer adds an extra layer of flavor and aroma to the well-rounded drink.

2. Akashi Archivo

Akashi Archivo is one of the cocktails DrinkManila created for Archivo 1984 for the La Fuerza Party last March 1, 2018. This highball-inspired drink is perfect for hot days spent roasting under the tropical sun or humid nights chilling with friends. Akashi Red Blended Whisky is excellent for mixing. The hint of sweet peach from the Creme du Peche balances the bitter tannins from the green tea, and the ginger ale lightens it up.

3. Rattan Sour

The rattan fruit is known for its distinct sour taste and because of it, it’s not very popular to eat raw, but using it for a classic whisky sour adds a bit of punch. The cardamom and black pepper gives a unique smoky and mint-like impression to the nose. The sour and astringent taste of ratan is smoothened by the sweetness of Disaronno. The cocktail gives a tart creamy finish that is so easy to drink you might forget that it’s got alcohol in it.

4. Krampus

This is a sweet but peaty cocktail with a bitter finish that won’t quit. Made for those who seek to celebrate in non-traditional ways. Inspired by the frightening Christmas Devil/Nightmare Santa, Krampus, a horned half-goat, half-demon who eats children who misbehave. DrinkManila created this cocktail for people who don’t want to drink sweet cocktails for Christmas and we thought it might be a fun addition to your whisky menu for World Whisky Day.

5. Oscar Sour

  • Recipe by Rian Asiddao
  • Diageo Reserve Brand Ambassador

This caramel whisky sour is a great late night movie marathon cocktail. It’s deliciously sweet and creamy with caramel notes, balanced by the sourness of the lemon. The caramel popcorn on top is a yummy treat while downing this frothy drink.

7. The 7 Year Itch

“I’m perfectly capable of fixing my own breakfast. As a matter of fact, I had a peanut butter sandwich and two whisky sours,” says Richard Sherman in the movie The Seven Year Itch. Whisky and peanut butter it is (but we don’t suggest you have this in the morning)! This cocktail is named after the iconic movie where you see Marilyn Monroe with her flipping white dress over a subway grate.

If you want a sweet-spicy cocktail, this one’s for you. This can be your dessert, since it’s creamy and peanut-buttery, with a heat you feel at the back of your throat. It’s like an alcoholic spicy Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Who wouldn’t want some of that?

8. A Piece Of Cake

  • Recipe by Ian Serdick Libang
  • Bartender from Spirits Library

You’re greeted with the sweet and powdery scent of crushed graham crackers. With every sip, there’s the comforting texture of cookies followed by a sweet creaminess and a balanced interplay of lemon juice and mangoes finishing with a light kick of whisky.
