Something Else is a mix of familiar flavors in a complex, yet harmonious cocktail. The strong cocoa notes of SelvaRey Rum (SelvaRey combines the Spanish words “selva,” meaning jungle, and “rey,” meaning king) bring the fruity flavors of orange and pineapple and the nutty orgeat together. The added hints of spice from the syrup and pepper and fresh minty notes make this drink really something else. You think the flavors won’t go together, but they do.

Ingredients:

  • 45 ml SelvaRey Rum
  • 10 ml orgeat
  • 60 ml orange juice
  • 15 ml pineapple juice
  • 5 ml lemon juice
  • 5 ml spiced syrup*
  • 1 dash Angostura
  • fresh cracked pepper
  • 5-6 fresh mint leaves

*How to make spiced syrup:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2-3 star anise
  • 1/2 tsp black peppercorns
  1. Dissolve sugar in a pot of water.
  2. Add spices and simmer for ten mins.
  3. Once cooled, strain into a container.

How to make the cocktail:

  1. Pour ingredients in a shaker.
  2. Grind pepper and clap 5 to 6 mint leaves before putting in the drink.
  3. Add ice and shake.
  4. Strain into glass with ice.
