Salabat is a traditional Filipino tea made with fresh ginger. The spicy heat of the ginger soothes sore throats and relieves cough and colds. Salabat is also suitable for digestion and has been known to help with motion sickness. The comforting tea is good on its own, or add local honey to your preference.

Ingredients:

  • 3-inch piece ginger (sliced or pounded)
  • 500 ml water
  • real honey (optional)

Directions:

  1. Bring 500 ml water to boil.
  2. Add ginger.
  3. Simmer for 5-10 mins.
  4. Transfer to the teapot.
  5. Add honey to taste.

Note: When you are buying honey, look at the label ingredients. A massive percentage of honey sold in supermarkets are fake. Ingredients with “honey flavor,” “fructose,” or “corn syrup,” are not real honey. Shop for honey locally, that way you know where the honey comes from. Locally produced honey is mostly unadulterated.
