Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Pinterest San Miguel Oktoberfest is something that beer drinkers all around the country look forward to every year. The country’s largest and longest-running beer festival, which gathers thousands of participants every year, was sanctioned by the Department of Tourism as an official festival of the country in 2014. The festivities are spread out in three months, September to November, happening in different destinations in the Philippines that feature a variety of OPM acts and activities for everyone to enjoy while sipping cold San Miguel Beers. Carousel Casualties at Saguijo This year, San Miguel Oktoberfest dives into the local OPM gig scene through Inuman Sessions, a nine-leg bar gig held every Wednesday at bars across the metro, featuring live collaborations between established bands and up-and-coming acts. The local gig scene is ripe, and young OPM talents are thriving, and San Miguel wants to support these acts and help them grow through this project. Mow’s in Katipunan San Miguel teamed up with Red Ninja Productions, known for their year-end shows, to curate and produce the exciting series. “Collaborations like these haven’t been done before. It’s never done live,” shares Red Ninja’s Nicole Sarmiento. The gigs boast of over 30 OPM artists, artists including Sandwich, Bullet Dumas, Hale, Munimuni, Mayonnaise, Sponge Cola, Reese Lansangan, Clara Benin, The Ransom Collective, and Tom’s Story. SMB Oktoberfest merchandise Entrance is free to all the gigs, and the first 300 guests get a complimentary glass of the iconic San Miguel Pale Pilsen. Since we all know you can’t have just one beer, you’ll be racking up those cute cups they pour the beer into. Don’t chuck them, because you can trade your cups for cute SMB Oktoberfest merchandise—three cups get you a six-pack carrier, four cups for a drawstring bag, six cups for a T-shirt! Munimuni and Clara Benin at 20:20 The Inuman Sessions kicked off last September 19 featuring a back-to-back gig at Mow’s in Katipunan and 20:20 in Makati. The Ransom Collective and Reese Lansangan serenaded OPM fans at Mow’s and did a surprise collab of Settled and St. Petersburgh. Meanwhile, at 20:20, Munimuni and Clara Benin made hearts swoon as they sang their hits. They performed their collab of Solomon, and Clara even went back for the last song of Munimuni to collab on Marilag. The most recent session was held at music haven Saguijo on September 26 and featured an intense collaboration between the legendary Sandwich and female-fronted indie band Cheats. It was a natural pairing, as the bands have toured together before, and several members cross over to the other at performances. Sandwich frontman Raimund Marasigan Not only did eager fans get to watch two of their favorites bands play their hits, but also see the two groups collaborated for their entire 12-song set, which was no easy feat. It was a 12-piece super band with two drum kits, four guitar players, one bass player, one keyboard, and four singers. As if that wasn’t awesome enough, they also did a cover of B-52’s Love Shack. “We’ve worked with San Miguel in bigger productions, and now we’re working with them in a small production supporting the indie bands that we love, the scene that we like, in the venues that take care of the scene, so it’s great for music. It’s great for the kids, and it’s great for everybody. It’s a win-win-win,” says Sandwich frontman Raimund Marasigan of the series. “We’re down to do another one, maybe in a bigger space,” he adds. “With a horn section!” interjects Cheats guitarist Jason Caballa (who also plays guitar for Pedicab with Raimund). “A lot of people couldn’t get in, so sayang. We want people to move through it freely, because it’s a dance set, and people want to move,” continues Jason. Inuman Sessions at Saguijo The energy was high, and the air was electric. It was an epic night that only the people squeezed together skin-to-skin in the packed venue witnessed. Don’t miss the next gigs in the Inuman Sessions series!
