About 200 species of sharks and rays are going extinct. If that issue continues to persist, it’s going to cause a disruption in the marine food web, which, in entirety, could affect the whole ecosystem.

There’s a lot of ways that we can help in preserving the oceans for future generations, and it starts with awareness. RAROCO Insurance Brokers, Inc. in partnership with Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines (MWWP) is holding a fundraising art show to raise awareness for marine wildlife with the main focus on sharks.

Happening on November 9, from 3 pm to 12 mn, Drink Like a Fish: For the Love of Sharks (DLAF) intends to make a lot of noise with a primary goal to ensure that the Shark Conservation Bill is ratified into Philippine Law.  The main highlight of DLAF is the special exhibit of artworks created by more than 100 local artists. Each masterpiece represents different shark and ray species.

During the event, there will be a series of Sustainability Talks by expert resource speakers for this cause.

3 pm – “Don’t be Plastic!” by Anna Varona, founder of Clean Our Oceans Project. Anna will give tips and pieces of advice on how to live a plastic-free lifestyle to reduce—hopefully, eliminate— trashes that get washed-up into the ocean. She will also give a run-down on how to transform plastics into eco-bricks and other functional items.

4:30 pm – “Danjuan Island Experience” by Sef Carandang, VP for community development of Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc. Danjuan Island is a marine sanctuary and not a resort. Sef will explain how people could explore the wonders of the Philippines with a lighter carbon footprint.

6 pm – “A Great White Lie” by AA Yaptinchat, founder and executive director of MWWP. Consumerism is an impending problem that will affect the globe if not treated with care. AA will show expectation in conservation versus reality. He will also present the beautiful possibilities of the things humans can do and undo.

Tickets are for sale at Php 1,000. It gives access to the art show, talks, and the famed live vinyl beats from Groove Nation. Each guest is also entitled to a delicious vegetarian dinner buffet and refreshing drinks from the organizer’s official drink partner, Destileria Limtuaco.
