Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Pinterest The British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP) celebrated the annual World Gin Day at Dusit Thani Makati on June 27, 2024. This event was held in collaboration with Ginebra San Miguel Incorporated (GSMI), and prominently featured their 1834 Premium Distilled Gin. Chey Mayuga, GSMI’s Brand Manager for 1834 said in her remarks, “Let’s toast to the remarkable journey of gin, the enduring partnership between British Chamber of Commerce Philippines and Ginebra San Miguel, and the bright future that lies ahead for gin enthusiasts everywhere.” Over 80 Participants have gathered for the festivities this year and witnessed the 6th installment of the event’s bartending competition with the theme of UK-Philippine infused tonics with GSMI’s 1834 Premium Distilled Gin. This year’s winner, Shawn San Juan wowed the crowd and the judges (BCCP Vice Chair Sarah Mcleod, – BCCP Events Committee Head Chris Ward, Josee Labe. and Jane Hughes) with his innovative “The Pearl of the Orient Gin,” which expertly blended local flavors with a UK twist.He competed against Sheila Sih from College of St. Benilde and Carl Angelo Vargas of Dusit Thani Manila. This year’s festivities showcased 10 UK gins from 4 UK gin companies ––G&I Spirit Group Limited, Roehill Springs Distillery, Sky Wave, and Spirit of Trent. With attendees tasting a wide array of tones from spirits namely; G&I’s Jillions and 88 Gin, Spirit of Trent’s Trent Original Gin and Pomegranate Gin, Sky Wave’s Old Tom Gin, Liberation London Dry Gin, and Signature London Dry Gin, and Roehill Springs Distillery’s Jillions Gin, 88 Gin, Gin No. 5, Navy Strength, and Blue Gin. “The UK has a whole range and wide diversity of gins as well. So gin is a growing market. And it’s one of those areas that we’ve looked at. And we’ve worked on this very much,” said BCCP Executive Director/Trustee Chris Nelson. The celebration was supported by PMFTC Inc. and Smart, with major sponsorship from Ayala Corporation. Beverage partners included Tanqueray and Don Revy–Whitley Neill, while raffle sponsors such as Admiral Hotel Manila, Anya Resort Tagaytay, Dusit Thani Manila, Holiday Inn, and Okada Manila added to the excitement. The British Chamber looks forward to this event fostering greater exploration of the wide and diverse selection of UK gins in the Philippine market and enhancing UK-PH relations.
