Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Pinterest The Golden State of California produces more wine annually than all other US states combined. Their wine production on a global scale is no joke. Californians take their wines very seriously just like their European counterparts. California has the most wineries in the U.S. and accounts for about 86 percent of the total U.S. wine production. What makes California wines unique is their depth, strength and incredible quality that is a reflection of California’s various wine regions. California wines have a bold fruity notes with aromas of various fruits and flowers. The flavors are also very intense, yet they have a smooth finish. “California has a rich history of agriculture and farmers. California also has an incredible micro-climate, like Napa Valley has 15 micro-climates. So, put it together along with the many talented winemakers within the community, makes California wines a standout”, says Mike Reyes, General Manager of The Wine Club. The Wine Club, a Manila-based importer of premium and ultra-premium wines, recently presented seven types of California red, white, and sparkling wines, in a wine tasting event at the Lounge of Hyatt City Of Dreams Manila. Highlighted on the tasting are these following wines carefully selected for their bold flavors and intense aromas distinct in California wines: Crane Lake Merlot 2015 A classic from Napa Valley known for its fruit-forward flavor profile that includes blackberry, cherry and vanilla spice. Its smooth yet strong flavor is perfect for red meats such as steak, lamb shanks, and even Italian pasta. Crane Lake Merlot 2015 Crane Lake Petite Sirah 2015 There’s nothing “petite” about this Californian red wine from its dark ruby color to the bold flavors of blackberries with a hint of exotic spice. Pair it well with any good steak, and you’ll surely have a wonderful evening. Crane Lake Petite Sirah 2015 Dado Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 One of the standout wines that night. The Dado Cabernet Sauvignon has a fruity dark red color boasting with rich, round flavors of cherry and berry, with a hint of vanilla oak. It’s very approachable and easy to drink. Its velvety taste goes well with old-aged cheese and reds steak. Dado Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 Cline Old Vine Zinfandel 2016 It has an interesting mineral aroma that lends a distinct flavor profile to this otherwise full-bodied, dry and moderately tannic wine. Its raspberry and tangy flavor finish is a good palate cleanser, especially after a sumptuous dinner. Cline Old Vine Zinfandel 2016 Nica Chardonnay 2015 Just like the Zinfandel, the Nica Chardonnay has rich flavors of vanilla and fig combined with a creamy texture finish that’s quite soft with the right amount of acidity. If you’re into white wines, this one can be an easy favorite. Nica Chardonnay 2015 Nica Sauvignon Blanc 2015 One of the smoothest white wines we’ve tried during the tasting event. Its unique quality comes from its vegetal aromas that include celery and onion. This type of wine would do well paired with salads and green vegetable dishes. Nica Sauvignon Blanc 2015 Crane Lake Brut Sparkling Wine This light colored wine has the aroma of apple and citrus. Its flavor notes have hints of melon and pear which are quite aggressive but crisp on your palate. This wine is perfect with dark chocolates or anything sweet. Crane Lake Brut Sparkling Wine The Wine Club is committed to bringing high-quality wines to the local Philippine market.
