Inspired by the famous Antarctic expeditions of British Polar explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton, Shackleton Blended Malt Scotch Whisky aims to bring the experience to Manila’s whisky lovers.

Shackleton Blended Whisky is the third release from Whyte & Mackay’s series of bottlings inspired by the whisky left behind in Antarctic by Sir Ernest Shackleton in 1907. In 2007, three cases of the perfectly preserved whisky were discovered, frozen but intact over 100 years later. Whyte & Mackay’s master blender, Richard Paterson, analyzed the discovered whisky and recreated a modern version by combining different casks of the best Highland malt whiskies.

Following the success of its first two limited-edition releases, the rare and collectible, The Discovery and The Journey, Shackleton Blended Whisky is the third and most mainstream release from the series. Shackleton is the first blended malt brand to join Whyte & Mackay’s portfolio as a permanent offering.

Capturing the experience brought to Antarctic by Sir Ernest Shackleton and his team in 1907, Shackleton is bringing the chill of the Antarctic in Manila with its interactive Shackleton roving iceberg truck. The 15 °C interactive experience will be hosting a light and sound show and whisky tasting starting at Landers Arcovia in Pasig then moving on to various parts of the city. There, visitors can learn about the unique history of Shackleton, taste the whisky, and learn about its flavor profile.

Shackleton whisky has sweet and nutty notes of cereals, tarts, baked apples, oranges, honey, vanilla, crunchy brown sugar with a hint of ginger, cinnamon, and smoke. It’s great neat, but better served over ice as ice is in the brand’s DNA. Cocktail enthusiasts can also enjoy its flavor notes in various cocktail recipes. The brand recommends Ice on Me recipe made with pineapple juice, sugar syrup, topped by sparkling wine; Shack & Awe made with coffee, apple tea, sugar syrup, and sweet vermouth; Igloo made with cranberry juice, apple tea, and sparkling wine; or Sweetsky made with orange juice, cherry brandy, and sweet vermouth.

“We are bringing the Antarctic experience closer to whisky aficionados with our Shackleton ice truck, says Pia Bonalos-Mercado, brand manager for Shackleton Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. “Through this, we will be giving an interactive tasting experience where the flavor notes of our blended malt will come to life,” she adds.
