The night was a celebration of the senses as The Macallan Edition No. 5 made its impressive Philippine launch on January 30 at Okada Manila.

The different rooms at The Macallan No. 5 launch: the Black Room showcases The Macallan Edition Series – annual limited release series, the White Room represents The Macallan’s dedication to 100% natural color, the Red Room represents to Art of Whisky Making and Color Creation, and the Blue Room represents the Science of Whisky Making and Color Creation

Guests were treated to rooms filled with different aspects of the latest whisky from the Macallan Edition Series. Each edition explores the internationally-renowned brand’s whisky-making process and craftsmanship.

The Macallan Edition No. 5 showcases a uniquely bold shade of purple – The Macallan Edition Purple (Pantone Code: MAC001) – which is a product of the collaboration between the brand and the Pantone Color Institute. This edition pays tribute to natural color, with its own hue coming from the casks used for aging the whisky.

Sarah Burgess, The Macallan whisky maker, notes: “We can find much common ground between whisky making and color creation. And with Edition No. 5, we have been able to explore and celebrate these two art forms.”

This is the first edition that uses entirely American oak casks as earlier editions have used either European Oak or a combination of European and American oak. “The sunlit barley color of the Edition No. 5, it challenges the usual notion that bolder flavors come from European oak casks,” shares Adrian Tecson, The Macallan brand advocate.

Edition No. 5 has notes of caramel as well as creamy vanilla and oak spices, with a smooth finish. It has a high 48.5% alcohol by volume, the highest in the series so far.

“It’s all about pushing boundaries,” says The Macallan Brand Ambassador for Southeast Asia Randall Tan. “We wanted to showcase the color because of the complexity of the whisky itself. It’s a very complex whisky. It’s a non-age statement. It’s very mulitlayered. It’s a whisky that keeps on giving.”
