The global pandemic almost crippled the industry, with many of our favorite bars closing and bar professionals moving on in their careers because of it. Now that restrictions have eased and bars are operational again (we hope it stays that way), the industry is slowly but surely getting back up on its feet. But its recovery has been affected by the most recent typhoon that hit the country. Super Typhoon Odette (known internationally as Rai), may have spared Metro Manila, but it decimated large regions of the Visayas and Mindanao. Relief efforts have mobilized both the public and private sectors to help out, especially since it’s the holiday season. Drinks Be With You (DBWY), a group of active liquor professionals with the goal of uniting the Philippine bar industry to move Philippine cocktail culture forward, has decided to use its platform to give back to industry friends in the Visayas and Mindanao who were affected by Odette. Instead of the usual year-end celebration, DBWY’s Tagay-Alay party offers the chance for the bar industry in Manila to help their brothers and sisters, as well as encourage bar patrons to lend a hand as well. The party, which will be held on December 27, 2021 at Agimat at Ugat, will be open exclusively for bar and liquor professionals from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm, where they will be treated to free-flowing drinks and food and are given the opportunity to donate and help in their own way. Agimat at Ugat Foraging Bar, located at 5972 Alfonso St. cor Fermina St. Makati City Doors will be open to the public by 6:30 pm, so bar enthusiasts can drink for a cause, as proceeds from food and beverage sales for that night will be donated to DBWY’s initiative. There will be a Php 500 door charge per customer, which entitles them to a specialty cocktail. The first floor of the venue, Ugat, can accommodate around 40 guests, while Agimat on the second floor can accommodate around 50. Guests will be required to present their vaccination cards before entry. In the spirit of transparency and accountability, DBWY will be posting the progress of their distribution efforts periodically on their Facebook and Instagram accounts. Those who can’t make it to the event but wish to donate to DBWY’s efforts, can do so by direct deposit.
