The date commemorates the feast of St. Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint, and the Irish have been observing this religious and cultural holiday for centuries through festivals and parades. The occasion is closely associated with the color green and shamrock symbol, and is most likely the most celebrated feast day around the world. Drinking Irish alcohol, particularly whiskey or beer, are the par for the course for St. Paddy’s Day. Some places even offer green beer for the occasion. There is a custom called “Drowning the Shamrock”, where the shamrock is dropped into a glass of whiskey and then drunk as a toast to the saint. For many people, St. Paddy’s Day is a celebration of Ireland’s drinks, which are strong and full of character. It is also a celebration of Ireland’s culture, strength, and culture.
