The Long Bar at Raffles Makati has taken this one step further with Classics and their Classics, a cocktail menu inspired by the writers, artists and personalities who “embody the Long Bar spirit: timeless, enchanting, lively, and at times, theatrical.” Here are the descriptions of the drinks from Long Bar Raffles Makati: Charlie Chaplin’s Orange Blossom Charlie Chaplin’s Orange Blossom A well-known patron of Raffles Singapore, Charlie Chaplin was known to down quite a number of these gin-based cocktails every night. When not acting or directing in silent films, or composing beautiful music, Chaplin would be busy living it up with an Orange Blossom in hand. Scott and Zelda’s Gin Rickey Scott and Zelda’s Gin Rickey There never was a couple that worked the Jazz Age party scene quite like Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. One epic gin-soaked night in particular ended with the Fitzgeralds inciting a few other revelers to frolic in The Plaza’s fountain. The Gin Rickey, the Fitzgerald’s drink of choice, was immortalized in Chapter 7 of The Great Gatsby, and no Roaring Twenties-themed party would be complete without it. Coco Chanel Needless to say, classics exude their own style that cannot be replicated, and there is no other icon quite as stylish as Coco Chanel. In fact, the very cocktail made in her honor is considered a classic as well. Laurel and Hardy’s White Lady In Harry Craddock’s quintessential cocktail guide: The Savoy Cocktail Book, the White Lady was listed as the comic dynamic duo’s favorite drink, and rightly so: the drink is made with a bit of fanfare with the egg white and vigorous shaking before poured into a chilled glass. Ernest Hemingway’s Daiquiri Ernest Hemingway’s Daiquiri Because of his time in Cuba, Hemingway was known to be a lover of the Mojito. Scholarly research, however, has proven this was a lie, and was most likely a marketing ploy from one bar he frequented during his time on the island. Hemingway did love his drink, and with his diabetes, it’s been said that he preferred his drinks fruity rather than sweet. The Classics and their Classics menu also includes other icons such as Pablo Picasso, Louis Armstrong and Winston Churchill. Released along with the menu is a series of how-to videos to recreate these cocktails at home, but you can also enjoy these classics in the proper setting at the Long Bar in Raffles Makati.
