In other parts of the world Santa might already cease gift giving, but in the Philippines, a country which celebrates one of the longest Christmas seasons, we’re just about to close the Christmas season as we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany.

The holiday marks Three Kings’ Day, also referred to as three Wise Men or Tatlóng Haring Mago. It is a celebration of the biblical adoration of baby Jesus by the three Kings. According to the Bible, the three men found baby Jesus and presented him with three symbolic gifts–gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The gold symbolized kingship, frankincense or incense is symbolized his priestly role and myrrh which symbolized Jesus’ mortality.

Celebrate this day with these “Regalo ng Tatlong Hari” cocktail recipes by Liquido Maestro Kalel Demetrio:

“Inspired by Pinoy’s penchant for chocolate during Christmas, this drink has our own cacao and tablea. This recipe is made with root and herb pumpkin spice rum, tablea, Bacardi 8 rum, Intramuros Cacao liqueur, and pandan syrup. Melchor, one of the biblical Magi, is the giver of gold. This drink is served in a golden orb glass to represent the gift.” – Kalel

“This drink is inspired by seasonal fruits in the Philippines during Christmas such as longan, strawberry, fuji apple, and passion fruit. The drink has a base of Hendrick’s Gin and Vigan Basi. In the story of the Three Wise Men, Gaspar is the one who brought the incense, so for this cocktail recipe, I smoked the drink in an enclosed glass with apple chip wood, kalingag bark (local cinnamon), and assorted dried flowers.”

Mira ni Baltazar Watch cocktail recipe video here

“Inspired by the most famous rice cake of the Philippines every Christmas season, the puto bumbong. The original rice used for puto bumbong is an upland glutinous rice called pirurutong, which is naturally violet in color when ground and processed, hence the color of puto bumbong. Mira ni Baltazar uses coconut milk lambanog infusion, panutcha syrup, and purple yam. When the three wise men visited baby Jesus, Baltazar offered myrrh, which is a very aromatic oil extract. Puto bumbong has a margarine that makes it a bit shiny and flavorful.”
