La Maison Cointreau Asia bartender competition is now on its 4th year and countries in Southeast Asia are currently choosing representatives to represent their them for the finals this October.

Jake Page from Employees Only Singapore bagged last year’s title after battling with 11 talented bartenders from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.

In the local bar scene, numerous bartenders joined the Philippine competition, and nine finalists were chosen to compete on September 11 for the PH title. The winner for the Philippine leg will be representing the country on La Maison Cointreau Asia finals on 22nd to 25th October 2018 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Our local finalists will be creating drinks for two challenges–(1) Past, Present, and Future and (2) #TimeWellSpent. Past, Present, and Future encourages bartenders to reinterpret The Original Margarita (Cointreau/Tequila/Lime) inspired by something from the past (elements from history–recipe, antique barware, or vintage bottle), the present (contemporary spin), and the future (sustainability in mixology).

The final challenge is called #TimeWellSpent, it will focus on the use of Mount Gay Rum, the rum brand under the Rémy Cointreau portfolio. The challenge is inspired by the original aged rums’ time spent at sea. The final leg encourages competitors to take inspiration from the sea when crafting their Mount Gay cocktail.

Judging the PH competition are La Maison Cointreau 2017 PH champion Joey Cerdinia, Rémy Cointreau’s National Portfolio Ambassador Scott Fitzgerald, and DrinkManila.com’s editor-in-chief Tatum Ancheta.

Catch updates from the competition at DrinkManila.com’s Facebook page on September 11 from 11 am onwards. For more information follow #LaMaisonCointreau #CointreauPH on Facebook and Instagram.
