Watch DrinkManila’s Tatum Ancheta and Icy Mariñas check out places to drink at Jewel Changi Airport

Singapore’s famed Changi Airport has been awarded World’s Best Airport for the seventh year in a row and 10th time in the 20-year history of the World Airport Awards, making the airport a destination in itself. Last April 2019, the airport just got bigger and better with the new addition of the 135.700 sqm complex, Jewel Changi, a one-of-a-kind lifestyle destination designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie.

Seamlessly linked to the Changi Airport terminals, Jewel houses one-of-a-kind attractions and over 280 unique shopping and dining concepts, plus airport and accommodation facilities. One of the highlights of Jewel is the 40-meter HSBC Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. Inspired by frequent rains in Singapore, the Rain Vortex cascades through an oculus in the roof of the building and is a sight to behold from every floor. It is also home to the Shiseido Forest Valley, a lush four-story terraced garden attraction, which houses one of the biggest indoor collection of plants in Singapore.

Every inch of Jewel is an architectural marvel

Airport facilities like early check-in counters, baggage storage service and the150-seat Changi Lounge, which comes with shower facilities and provides seamless transfers for passengers with connections to cruise and ferry services, are open from 6:00 am to midnight daily.

Arriving in airports like Changi takes away the jetlag and boredom blues during layovers and delayed flights. For DrinkManila team, well, it is a drink destination and an excellent place to discover for the thirsty travelers. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to drinking options at Jewel. Here are some of our picks to quench your thirst.

The spirit of collaboration extends to their food menu, as they partner up with local street food chefs (the food partners changes every quarter) to offer food pairings with their beers. Currently, they have Kee Eng Kee Seafood, a local award-winning Chinese eatery, providing dishes for their guests. Check out their Chicken Cutlet in Tiger Lemon Radler Sauce to have the ultimate marriage of food and Tiger Beer.

You can find the freshest Tiger Beer in Singapore (outside of the brewery) in Tiger Street Lab, as they get new supplies daily from the brewery, which is only around 40 km away. Another key offering is the Tiger Seasonal Brew, exclusive only to Tiger Street Lab. Their first offering, Tiger Orchid-Infused Tiger Black Lager is infused with Singapore’s national flower and was such a hit that they were out of stock when we visited. The seasonal brews will change periodically, check them out when you visit so you don’t miss out on it. Apart from those brews from taps, they also offer bottled beer from the Tiger Beer line, so you can enjoy all the Tiger Beer your heart desires.

If you love the flavors of Central and South America, then head over to Tonito Latin American Kitchen. You can expect classic Mexican dishes like tacos and quesadillas, as well as fares from Peru, Argentina, and Venezuela. Its cozy terrace overlooks the stunning Rain Vortex surrounded by lush greenery. You get to enjoy your food and drinks while taking in the picturesque background and indoor garden landscape. Definitely, a sight for sore eyes, especially if you’ve been on the plane for long hours.

Inside the cozy Tonito Latin American Kitchen

The beverage menu is quite small but curated to accompany the medley of Latin American flavors in their food. If tequila is your jam, sip on some Margaritas (Mexico), or if you’re in the mood for some cachaca, get yourself a Caipirinha (Brazil). What we enjoyed best are the Pisco Sours! Pisco is a strong spirit distilled from fermented grapes from Peru (and Chile; both of whom claim to be Pisco’s country of origin. But that’s a story for another day).
