Campari launches the 2nd Edition of its Campari Bartender Competition in Asia this September and the competition is finally open to talented bartenders in the Philippines.

Campari is an apéritif made from the infusion of herbs and fruit in alcohol and water. The bitter taste of this age-old liqueur is essential to some of the world’s most classic and iconic cocktails, including the most famous Italian cocktail, the Negroni.

This year, the famous Negroni cocktail recipe turned 100 years old, and Campari celebrated with a series of on-trade initiatives, consumer activations, and social campaigns. The brand also concluded the first-ever Bartender Competition in Asia last January 20 in Milan, Italy. The competition challenges bartenders to experiment with classic Campari cocktails and to create innovative new recipes for a Negroni.

The inaugural competition crowned Bangkok’s Foodie Collection group bar manager Supawit’ Palm’ Muttarattana as the first-ever champion. For its 2nd edition, 14 countries will hold each local competition to come up with a country representative for the Asia Regional Finals. Participating countries include China, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Each country winner will be flown to Milan, Italy for a 3-night 4-day tour to compete for the Asia finals on January 2020. The winning bartender will be invited to represent Campari in various events and guest shifts for 2020. Aside from the accolades, the champion will take home a cash prize of €3000 (EUR), and his/her winning cocktail will be part of the Negroni Family Tree for 2020.

For interested bartenders, join the competition by signing-up on this link. The local competition will go through a series of elimination. Round 1 requires entrants to submit a video of themselves creating their own Campari cocktail together with a 200-word story of the cocktail. Participants may send entries via this link. The quality of the video does not score points, so, don’t worry if it’s not edited professionally (but if you create a great cinematic video, they won’t fault you in that), what’s essential is the highlight of the ingredients and inspiration behind the drink. Points will go to the story of the creation, presentation, cocktail design, and its visual appearance.

Round 2 will be the pre-elimination and require participants to create a Negroni Family cocktail menu which should be available in their participating bars. A committee of industry experts will visit the bars to sample the Campari menu and shortlist the contestants for the Round 3 which is the local finals.

The top bartenders who will compete for the local finals will be presenting their creations to a panel of judges who will determine the Philippines’ representative for the Asia Regional Finals.
