Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Pinterest Negroni Week 2023 is just around the corner, and cocktail enthusiasts have much to look forward to. From September 18 to 24, thousands of venues from around the world will be putting one of the most iconic cocktails on center stage. This annual global celebration of the iconic Negroni cocktail has gained immense popularity in recent years, thanks in part to the viral video of ‘House of the Dragon’ star Emma D’Arcy naming the Negroni Sbagliato with Prosecco as their drink of choice. The Negroni originated over a century ago in Florence, Italy. Count Camilo Negroni asked bartender Fosco Scarselli to give his beloved Americano an upgrade. Scarselli substituted the soda water and lemon twist with a splash of gin and an orange slice, and the Negroni was born. While Italians typically enjoy Negronis before dinner, at DrinkManila, we think it’s a great drink anytime of day. This classic cocktail, made with equal parts gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari, offers endless possibilities for creative interpretations by talented bartenders. Created in 2013 by Imbibe Magazine and Campari with the purpose to raise money for charitable causes around the world, Negroni Week has grown to include over 10,000 participating bars and restaurants in over 70 countries and has raised over $4 million for charitable donations to date. Slow Food has been chosen as this year’s giving partner for the second year. An organization that focuses on sustainability, education, equity, and diversity within the hospitality industry, Slow Food is a fitting partner for the initiative. Negroni Week has found a warm welcome in the Philippines, with 100 establishments across the country participating in the annual celebration this year. From Manila to Cebu and beyond, bars and restaurants all over the Philippines will be joining in the festivities. For 2023, there will be a local competition, where the bar that sells the most Negronis during the week-long celebration will receive Php 50,000.00. “We’re very happy with the support that we only got from of our partners locally,” shares Campari Philippines Brand Ambassador Ian Osillo. “We also spent time in supporting the provinces because we really want to tap the whole of the Philippines.” | Image from Campari PH The week-long event is going to be a Negroni extravaganza. Expect special Negroni menus with creative drinks that cater to diverse palates. Experienced and new drinkers can enjoy and explore more than just the classic Negroni, as each participating bar features a barrel-aged Negroni, as well as a playful riff off the classic recipe. It’s tempting to check out all the bars just to try their variations.
